Tell Your Lawmakers WHY to Oppose Cuts to Childcare and Early Education Funding!
Lawmakers could soon slash childcare and early learning programs by hundreds of millions.
That’s because we’re facing a $12 billion budget shortfall while mega-millionaires and billionaires contribute a far smaller share in taxes than the rest of us.
Washington’s families already face a massive childcare shortage, causing parents to miss an average of 5 days of work a year. Childcare costs are too high, while the people who provide childcare don’t make enough to care for their own families.
Rather than increase childcare and early learning, some have proposed cutting nearly $68 million from the Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program, Washington’s free preschool for 3- to 5-year-olds, as well as eliminating an Early ECEAP program for babies and children up to 3 years old. Other programs that may be slashed: provider reimbursement rates, dual language program supports, and Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation.
We need to fund more childcare and early learning programs, not cut them.
Tell your lawmakers WHY you want them to protect early education and childcare funding by making sure Washington’s wealthiest people and big corporations pay what they owe in state taxes.
