TELL YOUR LAWMAKERS WHY YOU OPPOSE BUDGET CUTS

  • Washington is facing a $12 billion budget shortfall. Tell legislators to make mega-millionaires and billionaires pay what they owe in taxes!

It’s no surprise we’re facing a $12 billion budget shortfall while Washington’s mega-millionaires and billionaires contribute a far smaller share in taxes than the rest of us. This broken system pits schools against childcare, bridges against transit, housing against health care.

It doesn’t have to be this way. Washington’s mega-millionaires and billionaires should be paying their share, just like the rest of us.

Choose the issue that matters most to you to send a letter to your legislators now!

Hundreds of thousands of seniors, single parents, veterans, and other Washingtonians are struggling to find affordable housing or pay their rising rents, driving up homelessness and worsening our state’s housing shortage.

Students, parents, teachers and staff are already feeling the effects of school district cuts, with layoffs and other cost-saving measures undertaken. Universities, colleges and technical schools are also facing budget cuts, meaning tuition could rise.

Washington’s families already face a massive childcare shortage, causing parents to miss an average of 5 days of work a year. Childcare costs are too high, while the people who provide childcare don’t make enough to care for their own families.

At some point in their lives, nearly 25% of Washington residents will struggle with a mental health or addiction problem, but nearly half of the state’s 39 counties don’t have a single psychiatrist or psychologist to help. Youth also face months-long wait times for psychiatric treatment.

If health care is cut, pregnant Washingtonians and newborns would lose access vital prenatal, birth, and postnatal care. About 40% of Washington’s births are covered by state-funded health care. Young children, aging residents, and people with disabilities also depend on state-funded health care.

Tell your lawmakers WHY you want them to stop protecting Washington’s billionaires and mega-millionaires from paying what they owe our state. This is an open form ready for you to personalize. It will automatically send your personal message to your elected lawmakers.
