A new poll shows: Americans agree on billionaires
A new poll shows what most of us already know: 3 in 4 Americans say the wealth gap is a “serious issue,” two-thirds believe billionaires are making society more unjust, and a majority agree they’re bad for our democracy.
Americans see the problem, so how do we get lawmakers to solve it?
The truth is, legislators in Olympia receive thousands of messages every day — many of them identical, copy-and-paste emails from advocacy campaigns. Those messages matter, but what we’re hearing from our allies is that emails sharing personal stories are an even better way to break through the noise.
That’s why we’re asking you to send your personal experience or opinion to your lawmakers, like Jessica in Sequim who recently wrote to her state lawmakers:
I am a mom and a small business owner. We currently pay a very high health insurance premium of $1,800.00 per month for our family of 4. Keep in mind everyone is healthy, we barely go to the doctor, and our annual deductible is almost $10,000.
We are ineligible for ACA subsidies because my business's earnings carry through to my personal income tax which puts us over the threshold to receive the ACA benefits.
Legislators need to hear directly from constituents like us who oppose cuts to healthcare, education, or childcare, because they need to know the real world impact of our backwards tax code.
Thank you for taking action,
-Treasure
